Send messages to your Congresspeople: Re-introduce and pass the Native American Voting Rights Act now!
For today's National Day of Action and Reflection to mark the 100th anniversary of the Snyder Act, which conferred U.S. citizenship to Native Americans, we're pushing to eliminate obstacles that Indigenous people still face when voting.
We're urging Congress to re-introduce and pass the groundbreaking Native American Voting Rights Act (NAVRA).
The legislation would allow for the designation of Tribal buildings for voter registration and voting locations, and it would establish voting task forces to address issues such as broadband access. If passed, it would require the acceptance of Tribal-issued IDs at any voting locations where ID is required. It would also require appropriate language assistance and prohibit states from reducing or removing voting locations on Tribal land without Tribal consent.
Last session, this bill had bi-partisan support in Congress and on the ground in Native communities. Congress needs to hear from us to re-introduce and pass it before the next election, to make sure Tribal communities have full access to the right to vote.
Please click 'START WRITING' to send a message to your Representative and Senators today: Re-introduce and pass the Native American Voting Rights Act to overcome racist voter suppression and protect Native peoples' right to vote.
