I'm only a third of the way through the performances for Burn and already I've got to think about the next thing.
There's an audition this week for The Game's Afoot by Ken Ludwig. The Peninsula Players are putting it on.
It's a fun play. Comic.
The show goes up in November. But they are auditioning now.
It's always strange auditioning for something. You don't want to be too eager. But you don't want to be too aloof.
And it's always a gamble. You don't know what the director is looking for exactly. And the director also has to make sure that you fit in with the rest of cast they get.
I don't get too upset about casting. It's out of my control.
I try to do the best that I can.
As I told a friend recently, sometimes you're not auditioning for the play you think you are. Sometimes you're auditioning for the next play.
Sometimes you aren't right for this show, in the director's opinion. But if you do a good audition, they may think of you for their next show.
It happens all the time.
Two years ago, I auditioned for a play with one group and didn't get the part. I auditioned for another group and got the part. So, I was fine with it.
This season, the director that didn't cast me in that previous play was auditioning again. And this time, he cast me in Burn.
You can't control if you get cast. You can only control how well you do in an audition.
So, tomorrow, I will try my best at the audition.
If I don't get a part, that's okay. But hopefully, I will have done an audition I can be proud of.
