It has been a wild week, and we hadn't planned for it to start with putting down our sweet cat, Hiro. Thank you to all of you for your kind words about that. I didn't try to respond to the comments, but they were read and very much appreciated.
The good is that the kitchen is coming together very nicely. Floors went in Monday and Tuesday. Electrical work and more work on cupboard hardware and other things Wednesday and Thursday. Friday (today as I write) the new counters went in and a sink and garbage disposal that works, so we at least can use the kitchen sink now, instead of the utility sink in the laundry room. You end up selecting bits and pieces of everything along the way and hope it all looks good together - and thankfully we had a good designer who assisted with that. But all the pieces (except the appliances) are here now, and we love the look. It is so much brighter than the dark green we had before.
Some more painting to do, and the appliances, of course, a few finishing pieces, and we are about done, on schedule so far. We're very tired of picnic kinds of food, and looking forward to having a working kitchen again. And to not having any major renovation projects in the foreseeable future.
The getting better part is that the ringworm in the kittens is abating. Queenie, the mom cat, never did seem to get any ringworm and she's getting sprung from her cage and going to her forever home tonight. Everyone's been in cages the last couple weeks to prevent spread, and I need to do that a little longer for the kittens, but two more should be able to go home in another week, and after that I will let some of them free in the room again. Leo, who was the most affected, may need to stay in the cage a bit longer...we shall see. And two of the kittens who came in last need some serious work on socialization, which is easier to do if they are caged and have to rely on me. But I also bought a papoose made for carrying a kitten around on your chest while you're doing other things, which is a great way to get them comfortable with you. As soon as I'm confident the ringworm is gone, I will start on that with the two scaredy kittens.
It will be nice to not have any contractors in the house for the weekend, and a light pet sitting schedule, so we can catch upon our lives a little bit. I'm pretty tired and hoping for a bit of R&R this weekend. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend as well.
