Day 4 Paris 2024 Olympics: a postponed event, an incident, and the Games continueThe men's triathlon was postponed ... and Australian gold continues in the pool ...30 July 2024: At 08:00 am, the stands are empty and no-one is in the River Seine for the start of the men’s triathlon on Day 4 of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The event was postponed due to concerns over water quality. The event has been postponed until Wednesday 31 July - the same day as the women’s triathlon. Both will only happen if the water quality is satisfactory. Friday 2 August is also a contingency date. Storms that are forecast for tonight (Tuesday) through to Thursday may cause bacteria levels in the River Seine to rise, so anything is possible. As people were leaving the area, the local French police thwarted a security incident swiftly. Fan Zones continued to display live events on large screens around Paris as people watched France defeat Japan 94-90 at men’s basketball in overtime. New Zealand win gold in the women’s rugby sevens and the USA team takes gold in the women’s artistic gymnastics. In the pool, Australian Kaylee McKeown wins gold in the 100m backstroke final. Over 460 Australian athletes are competing in 329 events at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The only events where an Australian is not participating are fencing; handball, and volleyball. They have competed in the Olympics from the beginning of the modern era in Athens 1896, and have won at least one medal in every Olympic Games. Did you know that Australia and New Zealand athletes joined together under the one flag - the Australasia flag - at London 1908 and Stockholm 1912. So, Australian athletes have won a total of 557 medals at the Olympics - 167 gold, 177 silver, and 213 bronze. To Day 4, road cyclist Grace Brown won the Aussies’ first gold at Paris 2024 in the women’s time trial on 27 July. Jessica Fox won gold in the women’s kayak single - canoe slalom and Christopher Burton has won silver in the eventing individual jumping equestrian event. Swimming has been the most successful sport for Australia at the Olympics, accounting for 221 medals, with 71 gold. In Paris 2024 to Day 4, the Australian women’s 4x100m freestyle relay team won gold with a new Olympic record - the swim team recorded a time of 3:28:92 - and the men’s 4X100m freestyle relay team also won gold. Elijah Winnington has taken silver in the men’s 400m freestyle event, while Ariarne Titmus won gold in the women’s 400m freestyle. Can’t see the whole article? Want to view the original article?
