Howdy folks! How are we doing this morning?
How are we already halfway through this week? Okay to be honest I'm fighting a head cold that has knocked the wind outta me. It hit about midday on Monday and I'm hoping the peak of which was yesterday as I felt horrid most of the day. This morning I do feel better but still quite rough.
That does equate to a zero word day yesterday, I did try some editing in the evening but my brain kinda laughed at me and I decided on an early night. I did have a good start on Monday before I started feeling rough, although I hit a slight snag with War Child, a scene I wasn't expecting to have to do a lot of work on will likely need a whole rewrite.
It's funny because Penal Earth 2 is going through its first edit pass. For me this is making sure the continuity is solid, as well as fixing grammar and spelling mistakes etc. but the story isn't going to need many changes. I have a complete story essentially which aside from the ending is all but done (the ending is just kind of sketched out in the draft at the moment and although it needs a lot of work, I know what I need to do to have it done). Whereas with War Child it's a story that has a lot more complexities that I'm navigating. Although I won't be releasing any of the War Child books for some time I don't want to keep going back and retroactively fixing things. I want to get book one as clean as I can, and off to an editor next year. Once it's at that point then it's done as far as I'm concerned.
Writing this post in my car before work, and love listening to the rain ☺️
This month is the first month where I'm using my previous months output as a target to beat. I keep trying to find a way to improve my productivity so I'm hoping this helps. Partly I'm going to be looking at how many words I'll be producing but I think the main target should be how many hours I'm putting into it. Last month I did pretty well in keeping track of time spent working, and as I won't always be editing or writing a first draft I think time is the gauge to focus on.
Speaking of which, I've got about fifteen minutes before my shift starts, so I'm gonna try and get some words down, or at least read what I wrote on Sunday (when I last worked on this bit) and refresh my memory for later.
