My hometown friends and I have a semi-regular Zoom meeting. We reminisce and shoot the breeze.
Rehash the old times. And update each other on the new times.
A couple of weeks ago, we were remembering our friend George. It was his sixty-first birthday.
Or it would have been, if he hadn't passed away six years ago.
Six years ago!
Hard to believe the years have gone by so quickly.
Other family and friends have passed on in that time.
But it seems weirder when it's someone your age.
Someone you grew up with.
And at the same time, it's like it never happened.
Most of us live in different cities. We don't get to see each other in person, too often.
It's easy to imagine friends that have passed on have only moved on. To somewhere else.
Like Winnipeg. Or Gander.
Our friends and loved ones keep on living in our hearts. And in the stories we tell.
