I have had the conversation concerning their opinions of what significance Christ has in Islam with many Muslims, and not just my family, and I always got the same answer word for word. I think it is just what they are taught, and not their own idea. Try asking them and they will say Christ was only a prophet, and not a very good one, and not the son of God as claimed. Fair enough the idea being to give the impression that they can tolerate him but only as a prophet just to appease Christians. However: Ask them if they believe he is the Jewish messiah and explain that he is, and if there is no-one else around you will be very lucky to walk away with your life. It's the Jewish connection that is different. That they will not tolerate. For the sake of peace here get them to accept Christ is the messiah leading us all to be as Jews - or go home.
