Friday was pleasant and productive. For the purpose of this blog, however… it was full of the same activities that I've been reporting to you regularly.
While sorting photos into boxes, I read cards and letters, and checked each photo for date on the back. It was a decades-old walk back in time.
I phone two old friends. I didn't monopolize the conversations, I am pleased to report. Still, we had similar outlooks on this entire business of downsizing.
During yet another day of sorting and deciding what to keep, donate or discard, I came to a conclusion: that I'm doing this for myself.
I care deeply what our children would enjoy later, but there are definitely things, including photos, that they would never miss and that have little or no relevance to their lives.
Both of my friends say that their adult children have expressly stated that they don't want "anything".
There is another factor that entered my thinking while I worked. In May of 2023, a wildfire came very close to our property and buildings. We did have time to throw photos into a vehicle, but what if we had had no time to save anything?
I'm going to keep at this project. I'm sorry if it's a boring blog topic. Thank you for reading.
