Trying to figure out WTF is going on Kenny MacAskill gives a disturbingly accurate account of Scotland's status under the Union and the deleterious effect on our environment, economy, and society. But he is hardly the first to do so. Describing Scotland as a colony is now commonplace. The Salvo/Liberation initiative is merely asking the UN to make official something that has long been obvious to anyone who considered the facts. A few blinkered fools indignantly deny that Scotland is a de facto colony. They object splutteringly to any suggestion that Scotland is annexed territory. But the facts are as Kenny MacAskill describes them. And he tells but a fraction of the story. If we have hitherto been blind to our true colonised status this is because we have long been victims of a grand deceit perpetrated by the ruling elites of England-as-Britain with the active collusion of Scotland's own political class. Minds have been colonised. The Union was imposed as a fig-leaf for a brutal military occupation and aggressive annexation of Scotland. This was England's final solution to the problem of Scotland, which had historically been regarded as a foreign threat. It was a great leap forward for the 'Greater England' project. Having catch'd Scotland, England was determined never to let go. The Union's purpose was to give England and later England-as-Britain a massive power advantage in perpetuity. Everything that has happened since has to be regarded as serving the purpose of maintaining this advantage. Over time, the subjugation of Scotland became a matter of habit and practice so familiar as to be barely noticeable unless one was already aware of it. Our subordination came to be perceived as the natural order. To insist on our own culture was to be crude and parochial. To speak of our resources as Kenny MacAskill does was to be selfish and greedy. To speak our own language in our own schools was to be uncouth and not uncommonly to be severely beaten. Our inferiority was an established fact that wasn't to be considered far less questioned. Our minds were colonised. Scales are falling from eyes. Awareness of the nature of the Union and its baleful impact on our nation is spreading. Kenny MacAskill is helping this process. What he is not doing is telling us what he intends to do about it. That the Union must end is obvious. But how does Kenny MacAskill propose to end it? Precisely what actions does he suggest we undertake in order to bring the Union to an end? Kenny MacAskill is not telling us anything new. He is not telling us anything we are not aware of. As a career politician, he has belatedly caught up with the idea of Scotland being a colony. Or he has lately found the environment conducive to acknowledging our true status. How long will it be before he arrives at the inevitable conclusion already reached by an increasing number of people; that there is no escape from the Union while abiding by the rules designed to keep us captive? Someone among our professional politicians has to be first to acknowledge that our only means of extricating Scotland from Britannia's avaricious grasp is the process dubbed #ScottishUDI.
