Trying to figure out WTF is going on James Dornan was doing so well! Then he tripped and fell into the abyss.
I've just written yet another blog article saying the independence campaign must be more assertive and forceful. This implies we should also be more forthright. No mincing of words. No timorous euphemisms. Just tell it like it is. So, James Dornan, you are a fool. As is anyone who obdurately adheres to the Sturgeon doctrine and the idiocy of supposing a Section 30 referendum could ever lead to the restoration of Scotland's independence. It would not have done so had Yes won in 2014 and it is even more certain that it will not do so now or at any time in the future. In many ways - certainly enough ways! - a Section 30 referendum is the opposite of what we require. A Section 30 referendum can never be other than consultative and non-self-executing. A proper constitutional referendum is determinative and self-executing. A Section 30 referendum is nothing more than a glorified opinion poll. An opinion poll, moreover, which the British state can burden with enough conditions to make it unwinnable for Yes. Not that it would matter, because a Section 30 referendum leaves final interpretation and disposal of the outcome to the British government. But I suppose if you're naive enough to believe a glorified and rigged opinion poll can substitute for a proper constitutional referendum, you are surely gullible enough to imagine the British state will bow to the expressed will of Scotland's people out of respect for democratic principles. This would be somebody who has been wandering around with their head up their backside for the last ten years. The first item on a real Manifesto for Independence is repudiation of the Section 30 process. There are a number of reasons for this. Not the least of these is the sheer insanity of thinking Westminster would or could transfer powers which undermined the doctrine of parliamentary sovereignty. They not only won't! They can't! Their own constitution won't allow it! One of my greatest concerns about our inept political elite in Scotland is that they all defer to Westminster in the same way as James Dornan does. (And indignantly deny it even as they do it!) I fear they will accept the toxic 'gift' of a Section 30 order and discover too late just how toxic it is. By far the greatest threat to Scotland's cause is not the Unionists or the British sate or the British media. It is our own elected representatives. A parcel of rogues? Perhaps! A parcel of fools?
