Trying to figure out WTF is going on It is not often I will favour a Daily Express front page. But this is one of those occasions. That this harrowing image and the accompanying condemnatory message is published by one of the most rabidly right-wing newspapers in the UK affords it a particular power. A great crime is being committed in Gaza. A crime that does indeed shame us all. A crime so immense it touches and taints every single person on the planet. A crime so heinous it poisons the very idea of humankind. https://x.com/CallumHoare_/status/1947770415092314506 The perpetrator of this coldly methodical mass murder in Gaza is the State of Israel and the monstrous machinery of destruction and death it has assembled with the active collusion of the UK government, among others. We are all implicated. We are all guilty of being alive and present in a world where such unconscionable cruelty can be just another item on the rolling news. History will ask how we could let this happen. Our children and grandchildren will demand to know what we did to stop the slaughter. Were we able to answer, we would have to say with eyes cast down in shame, "Not enough!". We are all implicated. We are all guilty of being alive and present in a world where such unconscionable cruelty can be just another item on the rolling news. For those commanding, committing, colluding in, and condoning the atrocities, there is no forgiveness and no redemption. But the rest of us cannot be at ease. For if this is permitted, can there be anything which isn't? You're currently a free subscriber to Peter A Bell. For the full experience, upgrade your subscription. |
