Cross Fit for the Mind

Head, Gut and Heart

Cross Fit for the Mind

The Newsletter that Changes the Minds of High Performers

Plant Shelf

The essence of being human is usually described in 3s: mind, body and soul or head, gut, and heart. When people are true to what they think, feel and sense, they are described as authentic or integrated. We have an easier time connecting with these people because we sense their authenticity.

People who are not in a great place emotionally are often described as being 'stuck in their head'. The head constructs a self that it thinks will be good enough or loved, not necessarily a self that is true to our internal world.

This causes a problem because to make decisions that best serve our health and happiness, we need our 'integrated' selves. In other words, we need all three systems working together.

For example, you might think of an idea (head), see how it feels (heart) and decide if it's the right thing to do (gut). If you predominately access the thinking mind, as I did, it can leave you feeling confused.

In the modern world, the head dominates. We have previously talked about using embodiment practices to get out of our head. Paying attention to what we like and dislike can also help to sharpen our senses, as can solitude.

How plugged in are your feeling senses? How could you reboot them?
