Indigenous tribes were a lot more in tune with each other and nature.
Lakota Sioux Indians appointed a second mother and second father to a baby when it was born. These might be equivalent to what we now know as godparents, except their role wasn't to buy the kid shit they didn't need every birthday and Christmas, it was to act as parents that contributed to the child's development.
The second mother was thought especially important in the case of the eldest boy to avoid him becoming 'a little husband' to his own mother which would not be good for him, his mother, or his parent's marriage.
When reading this in the book 'These were Sioux', my jaw nearly fell open when I realised that issues which have been studied extensively in psychological literature and gone on to become books on childhood trauma, etc., were nipped in the bud by these wise people who knew instinctively what to do to avoid the problem altogether.
Be a godfather or a godmother.
