Slupetzky sat at his old typewriter and looked through his skylight at the bright blue spring sky. He was excited and happy. He was excited because he was in love and happy because he loved.
„What a beautiful, content state of mind", he thought to himself. He loved his sweetheart and she loved him. The circumstances of the past months had meant that they had separated, had to separate. It was the ultimate test for both of them and in truth it was hell. They had gone through hell separated only to be reunited afterwards. And this union was the most beautiful experience Slupetzky had ever made.
He had often thought in his life that he was in the wrong movie. He had always gone through hell alone. Even now he had been alone, separated from his loved one. But in truth she had gone with him. She hadn't left him alone, but had marched with him. He wasn't aware of it, but she had gone through hell with him. And so he came out with her.
„Everything is going to be fine in the end. If it's not fine, it's not the end," she had written to him in between. He had always understood this phrase as if beauty was the end. He had thought it would be over when it would finally be beautiful. He had always been incredibly scared of this, scared of hell. He was afraid of hell.
But now he felt exactly the opposite. It was finally beautiful, but it wasn't over. On the contrary, they were both at the beginning now. They were at the beginning of something completely new, before a new beginning.
The end was here. And it was beautiful. But it wasn't over. The end of the world had not happened. On the contrary, it was beautiful. It was beautiful, bright blue in the sky and lush green on the ground. It was like stepping out of a dark forest into a bright, lush clearing. It wasn't the end of everything. No, it was a beginning. It was the beginning of beauty, contentment and happiness, in love, lust and tenderness. It was the beginning of something completely new. Purgatory was over. Maybe it wasn't heaven yet, but it was the beginning of a new world.
It was the end of hell.
Thank you Kornelia!
