Well, Nova went to her forever home a week ago, and I hear she is doing well. She was tough one to let go...really bonded with that cat, but our home is not a good spot for her. Two cranky older cats and two dogs who chase cats...not what she needed.
In the meantime, the foster room has been empty a week and devoid of kittens for nearly a month. Which is actually great timing as we had lots of old carpet torn up and flooring put down in its place. Sixteen year old carpet is just not pretty, and certainly not practical with all our pets. I was so glad to have the fosters off to their homes as we had three days of lots of noise and chaos - it would have been a bit much for the kittens and Nova. But now we have beautiful new floors and are busy putting everything back together.
(My new office floor.)
It also gave me the chance, in between when the contractor folks were around, to get the foster room deep cleaned so I'm ready for a new season. The room gets cleaned regularly, but not a nice, deep cleaning which is needed here and there. It is all set for future fosters now.
Which is a good thing, as I have two short-term fosters coming on Thursday. They are going to be hanging out at a local pet store that lets our cats wander around and get themselves adopted, but they are coming from another rescue that doesn't have as much ability to reach out to adopters as we do, so they will come to our foster room for a little bit first so we can get to know them, write their bios, get pictures, etc. Graham is an 11 month old buff cat, and Gigi is a nine month old white and tiger cat, from what I've been told. They're supposedly very sweet, and I look forward to meeting them.
Lots of other kitten and cat needs starting to percolate, as they do this time of year, and within the month I expect we will be full with kittens. The winter has been so warm that lots of outdoor cats are very pregnant right now with some looking to drop those kittens anytime. Folks are working on trapping moms in some cases, and we will hope to get them secured before the kittens come. There are several fosters who have empty foster rooms for the moment waiting for them to fill with kittens!
It was nice having a break...but I, and others, are ready for the season to begin. Stay tuned. Hopefully some photos later this week of Graham and Gigi.
