Squeaky Beam pastrami

As promised, I am slowly making my way through the entire Squeaky Bean product line. So far, they have been consistently good. Their products are now becoming a stable part of our weekly food shop as their 'deli meats' are great for sandwiches during the week. Of course, the macros of the products are some of the best out there so these products are really helping to improve my overall health and fitness and help me reach my gym goals. Or at least, I like to think that they are.

Now I have never tried meat pastrami so I really have no reference to compare this product to. The texture is a bit...odd. It's very thinly sliced (which I think all deli meats are) and it seemed to have the texture of fruit winder. If you're not British, this is what a fruit winder is. It is surprisingly dense though and definitely has that deli meat texture that you would expect from thinly sliced ham or the like. So while the texture is a little bit odd at first, I think this is exactly how deli meat is supposed to be.

It has a little spice to it but I think it would need more. It doesn't really taste of a lot. It has a very subtle taste, so when combined with other ingredients - lettuce, tomato, the usual sandwich suspects - it does add a little extra flavour. On it's own though it does make for a rather plain sandwich. Now for me, I am not overly fussed about that. I am at the part of my fitness journey where macros come before flavour, so I am getting very used to plain meals that may not blow any culinary minds but they fill me up and give me the nutrients I need.

As with the other Squeaky Bean products, they are on the more expensive side. I have found that many oft he products can be on Tesco Clubcard quite regularly for around £2.00, but without any sort of discount they all seem to be evenly priced at £3 a packet. A packet tends to last me a work week of sandwiches (so 5 sandwiches) so while it isn't overly expensive when you break it down by daily use, it is still one of the more expensive products on offer. I do prefer these slices though to the Quorn deli sandwiches, but in all honesty the taste difference is miniscule. The main selling facotr of these products is the macros they contain, but if you aren't focusing on your macro intake, then I wouldn't say these are any better as a base product than the cheaper options.

Overall: 7/10. Their main selling point is the macro nutrients, but as a standard meat replacement they aren't anything overly special compared to the cheaper brands out there.
