This sculpture represents a male lion while it's hunting a horse by biting and scratching its back with its teeth and claws.
This sculpture was used in order to concretely testify the power of the Roman Empire and also the artistic and cultural heritage handed across the ages.
Most likely, this sculpture was an inspiration for the english artist George Stubbs, who made 17 paintings representing a lion while it was hunting a horse.
