My family, my friends have all had different political viewpoints and they belonged to not just the two traditional US political parties they also belonged to some of the less successful yet enthusiastic groups. Coming from that sort of background prepared me for the stage in my life where I worked on campaigns, was the spouse of an elected official and even held roles in the Democratic party.
That goodwill, that respect and trust I had in working with people no matter what political viewpoints they held all unraveled when Donald Trump ( he will always be Twitler to me ) shuffled into the White House with his wife trailing behind him.
A trust fund baby who grew up and became to become a mediocre Reality TV star had just talked his way into the most powerful office in the land and I didn't see that ending well.
I remember after the shooting in Sandy Hook when Gun Humpers and Republicans wept for their firearms being maligned in the press and social media and then moved on to denying the that the shooting and those children who died never existed.
At that time I read an article that pointed out that if we, as a Nation were willing to weep for Gun Rights being "endangered" and not for the murdered children of Sandy Hook- we were stepping off the cliff into the abyss -the one full of the monstrous versions of ourselves.
That was silly talk Gun Humpers proclaimed.
It turned out to be true.
Five years after Sandy Hook Republicans looked at Trump and said, " We need us some of that!"

Republicans have lovingly embraced a man who riffs on Hitler, has openly sexualized his own daughter and his deviant behavior didn't end there. It ended in a court where he was successfully sued for Sexual Abuse. He lies and when he gets caught he laughs it off and claims he never told those lies at all.
I don't care if you say you are a Republican and YOU don't like Trump. I won't sympathize with the painful position you find yourself in.
It's obvious you have crawled on your hands and knees so far down the path with Trump's more vocal devotees that you are never coming back.
I suppose the way I feel is, if you don't care that you've dived headfirst in the abyss and embraced the monsters that dwell down there, why should I?

When I first became involved in politics I believed that there wasn't anything you couldn't handle when an issue blew up right in your face, that people who had different points of view could respect each other.
