We are about to be without a kitchen for three weeks or so. Not looking forward to that, but I am looking forward to the end result, and especially having a dishwasher!!!
On Monday, a project we've been planning since the winter, begins with tearing out 1/2 of our kitchen, which is older than dirt. We added newer features to part of the kitchen about 18 years ago, which are still fine, but the older part is in need of a serious upgrade that will include new granite counter tops (also going into part of the newer piece we renovated those years ago,) new floors, new custom-built cabinets, and all new appliances, including a dishwasher. (Can you tell I'm really jazzed about getting a dishwasher?? Do you know how many foster kitten dishes we wash everyday?)
Here's the older part of the kitchen as it stands now:
Very dated, and some of the cabinets are actually falling apart a bit. The new cabinets will be very similar to the ones we put in 18 years ago:
The new ones may be slightly different in design but very similar in color/appearance. Since we live in a home that's 100 years old, these suit the age of the home and the rest of the woodwork around the house.
New floor:
New countertops:
New appliances are all stainless steel. And the paint will be a neutral, warm, off-white.
It has been very challenging putting all the pieces together, and hopefully they blend well and look good when we're done. We've trusted our designer to help with all of that, and if we're lucky, we'll see the final result July 2nd.
In the meantime, it will be paper plates, grilling outside, sandwiches and prepared things we can put in the microwave. Maybe dinner out one or two nights a week...we shall see. Our total bathroom renovation last year ran exactly on schedule and on-budget...hoping for the same this time around. Stay tuned.
