Little Kira has been doing a good job of settling in. She's been in quarantine in my office so far, but after her vet visit today, where she tested negative for FIV/FELV, she's moved to the ferret cage in the foster room where she'll stay for a day. She had some ear mites, and those were treated today, and hopefully killed off! Being in the ferret cage there gives everyone in the room the chance to get used to her a bit, and vice versa. But hopefully she'll get sprung tomorrow (Friday).
She's very small for her age, which has to be about 7 weeks, since her eyes have already changed color. She'll probably stay that way, as she doesn't seem overly thin or anything. Just a small cat. She's a playing machine, and once she gets to be in the whole room, not a single toy will be safe from her, much less all her brothers.
She's had a little trouble with litter box training, which is unusual in my experience, but I think we're on the right track finally. I expect she'll be reasonably popular, as she has beautiful markings and fur that is bunny-soft.
She is a huge fan of the snuggle puppy that has a heart beat I can turn on overnight, and slept with it most evenings. Maybe she'll find a brother or two who want to cuddle up with her at night once she gets sprung.
In other news, Queenie got herself a home! She was spayed on Wednesday and will be going to her new home on Monday. A nice young couple with their first house. She'll complete the picture! They love her "sit pretty" routine. I've seen dogs do "sit pretty" but not cats, and I didn't teach it to her. No idea where she learned that one, but it's adorable, and I know she will be loved and cared for in her new home. And she'll get a break from the room full of kittens!!
Everyone else is doing well. Queenie's kittens get their neuter surgeries in a little less than three weeks, and I have someone already interested in a couple of them. Little by little, we'll find good homes for the eight kittens here. Phew.
