With no more foster cats to care for at this point, Gracie has been getting lots more attention and adventures. She's been a busy girl, but she's not complaining!
Last week, 8/20, Gracie attended National Night Out in Derry Township (Hershey). It had been postponed from the original date due to weather. She went in her Caring Hearts Therapy Dog capacity, and we had a great time visiting with everyone. She stopped by to meet the folks from the emergency vet that's down the road from us, and she got lots of love there. Hopefully that's as close as she'll need to be to the emergency staff, but they are a great team and we're so glad they're a mile from us if needed. They enjoyed hearing that Leo, who had spent a couple days in oxygen with them when he was two weeks old, is doing great now, thanks to their hard work.

Marley, Gracie, and I ventured out on Saturday to visit one of our fellow bloggers; you can read a little about it https://coffeekatblog.com/2024/08/25/random-5-for-august-25-2024-visitors-pumpkin-spice-summer-cancer-normal/. I understand that Gracie the cat, who we visited while there, will have more to say about it on Friday, but we had a delightful visit, as usual. A nice walk and lunch and good company. It was lovely to have a day away - we haven't done that in a very long time.
This was Gracie, relaxing on the deck with us, stolen from my friend's blog. Gracie, the resident cat, was very intrigued with my Gracie's presence and kept a close eye (her only one) on my Gracie the whole time.
Sunday Gracie went to church as a greeter, along with another therapy dog team. I don't think the church has ever done that before, but the day was perfect for it outside, and folks were pretty surprised, and many were pleased, as they walked up and saw the dogs.
Gracie had a good time as well, and we went in for part of the service, but about halfway through Gracie sat in front of me, clearly ready to leave. It was good we did, since she pottied within about a minute of getting outside. Good dog, Gracie!
Then Tuesday evening it was off to the blessing of the animals with Gracie and Carly in tow. (Too many people, dogs, and unpredictable stuff for Ace...though he's getting better and braver. Maybe next year.) I was the one who lobbied to have that service created many years ago, and it was a bit of an uphill battle at the time, but it is well established now, and attendance is strong. Carly and Gracie got blessed and had a great time. Last year Carly barked so much Marley had to keep her at quite a distance, but she did very well this year with minimal barking and we were able to sit in the middle of all of it with everyone else. Good job Carly!

On the non-pet front, I have been busy exploring all the options at the senior center in town, and I'm loving it so far. The book group that I attended this week was terrific. Well organized, people very friendly, good discussion. I'll be back. I went to a chair yoga class Tuesday, but it was too easy for me, so I'll try the regular yoga class next. Today, tried the Life Stretch class and that's high on my list now as a regular class. It started out seeming a bit easy, but an hour or so after class I'm definitely feeling lots of my muscles, and it feels good. There are lots of classes, and I'm trying the ones that interest me, and we'll see which ones are the winners. But so far, everyone has been very friendly and welcoming. If my body holds up, I'll try Tai Chi on Thursday and Line Dancing on Friday, though classes four days in a row might prove a bit much for this out-of-shape person! There's always next week.
I'm off to help give out food at Cocoa Packs in a bit....94 degree heat expected...yuck. But I'll bring lots of cold water to drink. I'm only there 1 1/2 hours, so I'll tough it out. I have to say I'm enjoying being able to do things besides answer the phone and emails, and work with the foster kittens. I do miss the kittens, and it's a good thing we leave on vacation in six weeks, or I'd be tempted to do more fostering, but I really need to leave it be for a bit (and I have no idea how long that bit will be) before deciding if I want to continue down that road. I'll deal with a bit of withdrawal in the meantime.
For those in the US, have a good and safe Labor Day weekend.
