The feminine, the elemental and the cosmos converge in the heart of Paris, in an exhibition called “Femme Cosmos” (“Cosmic Woman”) from 22 October to 12 November 2025 at the Galerie du Luxembourg.
The exhibition brings together the works of French painter Sophie Sainrapt and Chinese photographer Gao Wenxiu in a visual dialogue. In this exhibition, the “feminine” is not merely gendered; the feminine becomes emblematic of receptivity, mystery, embodiment, and connection to the natural and cosmic orders. Sophie Sainrapt offers paintings, drawings, and ceramics, while Gao Wenxiu offers a photographic vision. Together they bridge the material body and the world around it.
Sophie Sainrapt, born in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1960, began life in law and political studies before turning to the fine arts. Her work focuses principally on the representation of the female body. She uses charcoal, inks, gravure, and ceramics. In this exhibition, Sainrapt presents her charcoal series “Noirs de femme” (“Women in Black”) in ink-wash.
Gao Wenxiu invites viewers into a photographic vision of the feminine in nature and in the universe in his series called “Cosmos.” His photographic medium is light and reflection in fantastical explosions of the cosmos. His art “navigates the very heart of the origins of life, between enigma and emergence.”
The exhibition “Cosmic Woman” includes a contemplation of the internal terrestrial landscape and the expansive cosmic landscape. The feminine becomes a gateway to the elemental: water, earth, wind, void, stars, and circling cycles. Feminine threads work well between the earthly and the ethereal.
