I have to say that having 12 kittens is a lot...probably not something I'd go again...famous last words. But it has definitely been exhausting. Surgeries start next week and I have them three Wednesdays in a row, and kittens will be going to their forever homes, and the numbers getting a bit more manageable.
Six of the 10 kittens getting their surgeries in July are spoken for, and another one or maybe even two will be spoken for tomorrow evening, I hope. I'm really pleased with all their forever homes to be, and especially glad that two of them are going to pet sitting clients. I love watching my little ones grow up, and both of these clients have adopted from me before so I know the quality of their homes very well.
One little guy, Lisbon, is adorable and can be very sweet, but he is also a total hellraiser. Found as a singleton he missed some time with siblings learning the ropes. He's going to a home with two adult cats, both adopted from me a couple years ago, and a super sweet lab, also adopted from me. One of the cats is a super muscular 14 or 15 pounds I think, and the lab is full size, and I bet little Lisbon is in for some schooling by all of them!! He'll also have three kids to play with, so he's headed for a full life.

One of the newbies, Athens, isn't doing very well, and she has a vet visit on Thursday. She's been with me a week and hasn't gained any weight, and not she's mostly stopped eating. She weighs only half of what she should at her age, so we need to figure out what's up with her. She's very sweet and lively for the most part, but as a baby she should be gaining weight regularly not sitting at the same number on the scale, less than a pound, day after day. Terrible picture of her, but it is what I could get today! She really wants out of the ferret cage but she can't come out until she is tested and in better shape. Teeny cat for one who is 5-6 weeks old.
Madrid, who was in the other ferret cage, is now free in the room, at least during the day, and he's loving it. He cares not a whit that he's half the size of the other cats, and he's having a blast. He won't be ready to go until mid-August, and he's a cutie!
I have been very lucky that this group of cats has been remarkably healthy, with the exception of Athens. With this many, having them all be healthy kittens has been a real blessing.
Now...and feel free to ignore this if you wish! Castaway Critter's annual rescue pet calendar fund raiser is underway, and I entered our own senior cat, Hiro, into the mix. The one who gets the most votes graces the cover of the calendar and if you click on the link here, you'll see why I hope my photo of Hiro wins! Votes are $1 with a $5 minimum, and Hiro and I and Castaway Critters will appreciate your votes should you choose to participate. This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year, and the monies go to cover medical bills - like those for little Athens! Here's the link. Commercial over.
That's the scoop from here. Hope everyone is staying as cool as possible, and inside if your air is filled with smoke. I feel so sorry for the Canadians.
