Along the sides of Piazza San Marco are several historic coffee shops, one of them is Caffè Florian which is the oldest coffee shop in Italy (operating since 1720), and one of the oldest in Europe.
Sitting in one of these caffe costs a premium; the drinks costs almost 5x more, the coperto (table service fee) costs 2x more and there's an "orchestra" fee for the live music performance.
We found it almost a silly experience when tour groups stop in front to talk about Caffè Florian being the oldest in Italy, and they are looking at you while you're looking at them.
Nonetheless, it was nice to just sit, relax and enjoy the music in the Square (after all, you have to pay for it lol). In the end, you can say you had a treat at the oldest caffè.
