A spiritual teacher of mine once opened a session by saying: "People are starving".
Nobody had to ask what he meant. In that moment everyone just had an innate sense of knowing what he meant. We knew he was referring to starvation at a soul level.
There are only so many things we can buy, so many days we can work a job we don't like, so many social occasions we can go to that we don't want to before our soul begins to weep. It weeps for a connection to something much greater and a sense of our place within it.
A lot of what we have talked about so far has focused on meeting the needs of the ego. Find out who you are, what you value, what your scared of, what you enjoy and get after it! Now don't get me wrong, this is an excellent start and if everyone did it, we would already be in a better place but even that runs out of steam eventually.
The problem with the needs of the ego is that they are never ending. So even when you are doing all the things you like, the ego always wants more, meaning you can end up on another never ending treadmill if you're not careful.
Long term stability requires a connection to something greater. Something that is unmoving throughout the highs and the lows. Something that makes sense of it all. Something that allows you to surrender and be guided by the Universe. Something that allows you to take these small actions we've been talking about and let go of the outcome at the same time.
What are your connections at a soul level?
